Our Vision

According to recent data:

  • 55 foster youth transition out of the system each year
  • 1,128 homeless youth in Sonoma County
  • National unemployment rate for youth is 14.3%

These at-risk youth need support to make the transition into stable, long-term employment.

Sonoma County has a unique environment that can foster a thriving job skills program. Our county has an abundance of restaurants, hotels and wineries, and is often referred to as a food and wine destination. Training young people to work in these environments offers them an opportunity to gain independence, stability and confidence in themselves, and a way for the hospitality industry to demonstrate its commitment to the Sonoma County community.

TIPS2SUCCEED is a tuition-free program designed to provide at-risk youth, ages 18-24, who are struggling to find work, with the training they need to find careers in the restaurant and hospitality industry. Our goal is to create a substantive training program dedicated to teaching participants about hospitality from customer service to interview skills. With the advice of our Board of Directors, which includes hotel, restaurant, and educational leaders, we have designed a comprehensive curriculum consisting of 14 two-hour workshops over a seven-week period.

Our non-profit partners include Social Advocates for Youth (SAY), TLC Child and Family Services and Voice Our Independent Choices for Emancipation Support (VOICES). These agencies successfully provide counseling, support and transitional housing for these youth. TIPS2SUCCEED aims to compliment these programs by providing a pathway to employment for these same youth.

We are very proud of the success of the TIPS2SUCCEED program thus far. We understand the need for employment opportunities for at risk youth in our community and are hopeful, with your help, to achieve our goals of helping more youth find pathways to employment in the hospitality industry in Sonoma County.

Through the TIPS2SUCCEED program, we hope to make a difference in the lives of our students.
